About IP Geolocation & Privacy

What is IP Geolocation?

IP geolocation maps an IP address to a physical location (country, city) using databases maintained by ISPs and regional registries. Accuracy varies: country-level is ~99% accurate, city-level ~50-80%. It's used for content localization, fraud detection, and access control.

VPN & Proxy Detection

VPNs encrypt traffic and route it through a server in another location, masking your real IP. Proxies act as intermediaries. Detection methods include: checking if the IP belongs to a known datacenter/hosting provider, comparing browser timezone with IP timezone, and consulting proxy/VPN blacklists.

WebRTC Leaks

WebRTC (Web Real-Time Communication) can reveal your local and public IP addresses even when using a VPN. Browsers like Chrome and Firefox enable WebRTC by default. To prevent leaks, use browser extensions or disable WebRTC in browser settings.

DNS Leaks

A DNS leak occurs when your DNS requests bypass the VPN tunnel and go to your ISP's DNS servers, revealing your browsing activity. This tool checks timezone mismatches and hosting flags as indicators. For a full DNS leak test, use a dedicated DNS leak testing service.
